Disneybound February

February is done and with it, my second month of Disneybounding. This time, I decided on one of my favourite Disney movies - Wreck it Ralph.

First up - Vanellope.

I whipped up a new pencil skirt for this Disneybound out of some stretch cotton that I had in my fabric stash. It was as simple as pairing with a light green shirt and black heels. I finished it off with some candy hearts brooches and a velvet ribbon for my ponytail.

Second - Ralph

This was my excuse to finally make some wide leg trousers from a vintage pattern. Hemming was a pain as there was so much fabric, but it was worth it in the end. I also made a tartan blouse of of some left-over linen in my stash (from one of my Bustle gowns). I also added a light green singlet underneath to help give the look. I think this has got to be one of my most successful Disneybounds so far.

Supa Syd 2

The final day in Sydney dawned wet. I had spent all of Saturday trying to keep my long gowns out of the wet and it was really a relief to be in a costume where I just didn't have to worry. For my final day of Supanova, I decided to Disney it up and wear my Vanellope Von Schweetz costume from Wreck It Ralph. Unfortunately my repaired hair liquorice did not make the suitcase trip so well and had broken into even more pieces. I had to resort to sticky tape, but I suspect there may be a new one being made in my future.
On the whole though, it is a comfy and warm costume. My jumper is actually a pretty light knit jersey fabric, but I layered up the tshirt and long sleeve shirt underneath for a little extra warmth. My little black boots kept my feet nice and dry and I managed to refrain from rubbing my nose and removing any of the makeup.

I had a blast dressed as Vanellope, and there were quite a lot of small children who obviously love the movie as much as me. I even had my photo take with a mini-Vanellope who was incredibly excited to see me dressed up too.

After a full day of shopping, lining up for photos and costume viewing, I trooped on back to collect my suitcase and remove my wig before heading to the airport. I didn't make it back home until 11.00pm, so come 6am when I had to get up for work on Monday, it was a struggle. And in the aftermath of it all, I managed to catch the con cold. It has been an awful week of feeling terrible and curling up in bed all day, but I am slowly getting over it (I think).

And to finish my post, photos of some of the other amazing costumes on show throughout the weekend.

Candyland Time

Last night (Friday) I had the pleasure of attending a Birthday party for one of my lolita friends. She decided to have a Candyland theme party. I was excited to attend. It was a wonderful party and I ate way too much sugar, having to sleep it off some extra this morning.
(The lovely Birthday Girl - Princess Belinda)

I had already started making a Vanellope Von Schweetz (from Wreck it Ralph) costume for Sydney Supanova later this year and thought that it would be the most perfect costume to finish for the party. So I got myself into gear and started sewing like a madwoman. This is the result...
The four main components of the costume are the skirt, jumper, tights and wig. I started with the jumper. It is made from a lightweight knit jersey fabric. I simply adapted one of my old jumper patterns to eliminate the front zipper. It went together very quickly, and I put the finishing touches - the eyelets and cording on it to finish it off. The tights were another matter all together. My first attempt were too short in the body (and I got the leg colours around the wrong way). I made them by cutting on white leg and one aqua leg. For the white leg, I applied the aqua and dark purple strips and then stitched the leg together. For the aqua leg, I had to apply the white spiral in one continuous run, an after some tricky maneuvering, I managed to get it all sewn down. The skirt, I made out of chocolate brown georgette and vinegar pressed in the pleats (my house smelt like a fish and chip shop all day afterward).
The wig proved itself a bit more challenging. I started by making the hair liquorice with the help of this wonderful tutorial http://kageshoujo.wordpress.com/2013/02/11/tutorial-vanellopes-licorice-hair-tie/ but as I was putting it on the wig, it broke, so I simply glued it back together with my trusty hot glue gun. You can't really notice the damage because the hair hides it, but I would like to make another one that I will strive not to damage. All the other candies, I glued on as well, for fear of them disappearing as I wore the ensemble. A slathering of makeup, some false eyelashes and I was ready to go.
